Fabulous location, great walks and views. Friendly hosts. Very comfortable accommodation.
A cosy cottage with a open turf fire burning on arrival, this was a lovely surprise x start to the weekend.

Achill Island is located off the west coast of Ireland in the historical barony of Burrishoole, County Mayo. It is the largest of the Irish isles and has an area of approximately 148 km2 (57 sq mi). Achill had a population of 2,345 in the 2022 census. The island, which has been connected to the mainland by a bridge since 1887, is served by Michael Davitt Bridge, between the villages of Achill Sound and Polranny. Other centres of population include the villages of Keel, Dooagh, Dooega, Dooniver, and Dugort. There are a number of peat bogs on the island.
As you explore Keel, you'll discover a range of exciting activities and attractions that make this destination a must-see for any traveler. For nature lovers, the Keel Beach is a must-visit spot, where you can enjoy a peaceful walk along the coastline or take a dip in the refreshing Atlantic waters. The beach also offers excellent opportunities for surfing, kayaking, and windsurfing, making it a popular spot for adventure seekers.
If you're interested in history, Keel has plenty to offer as well. The area is home to the ancient ruins of the 15th-century Kildamhnait Castle, which provides a fascinating glimpse into Ireland's rich historical past. Additionally, the nearby village of Achill Sound is home to the Achill Archaeological Field School, where you can learn more about the area's prehistoric settlements and stone forts.
